Interacting with
Developmentally Disabled Adults
(Our Chosen Class Members)
One of the things that makes Trinity special is the love we have for this wonderful group of people. You can help show your love weekly in the following ways:
-
Greet class members with a handshake. If they step back or do not respond, they still know you care.
-
If you offer assistance, wait for them to respond. They may need quite a bit of time to follow through. Some have difficulty speaking or have a delayed
response. Please be patient. -
If a class member strays, guide them to their classroom in Community Center across from the gym or to an usher to lead them to their seat in the sanctuary.
-
Chosen Class members love refreshments which are served in their room. If you serve them you will be their friend!
-
Please do not give money to a class member.
-
Kent loves fabric! He may touch your back or arm. He is very appropriate and doesn’t mind you touching his shoulder or back.
-
Chosen members may take time to get to know you.
Some of them have had very difficult experiences in
their past. Once they trust you, they offer the greatest friendship!
