TUESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY…
In June of 2007 the Chosen Ministry started a weekly Bible Study. This group began small and is now an inter-denominational group of 12 people who informally call themselves, "The Disciples".
We meet for an hour each Tuesday at 5:30 pm at the Moore Living Men's Residence at 1401Georgetown Blvd. in Lansing. Each class member has received their own Bible. During the Bible Study we learn how to find various books of the Bible, study 1 to 2 chapters of the Bible (currently we are studying Matthew), have a prayer time together, and finish singing hymns.
In September 2007, Pastor Bill Beachy baptized seven members of our group and offered communion there in the group home. It was a time of great celebration!
If you have any questions or wish to join this Bible Study, call Ellie Tobey at 517-617-9246.
THE CHOSEN BUS MINISTRY…
Transportation for Developmentally Disabled Adults in West and South Lansing…
The Chosen Bus Ministry provides bus transportation for class members our Bus Director Randy, along with a great team of bus drivers and bus captains, make this ministry go!
On Sunday mornings during the school year, those members who are independent enough to come to church on their own and who live on the south or west side of Lansing are picked up at 8:00 AM on Sunday and come to the 9:00 AM Traditional Worship Service. We have Worship Service Support volunteers who sit with class members and assist as needed. The bus returns people to their homes at 11:15 AM following the class time.
The bus also runs for the Quarterly Activities where we have a great time together along with good food!!
If you have never been on a JOY RIDE, then please come ride the bus with our class. It is better than a party on wheels!
If you need a ride to Trinity UMC on Sunday mornings, are DD, and live in the west or south side of Lansing, please call Randy at 517-626-6080, email Cyndi at Cdake99@yahoo.com, or complete the Chosen Ministry Interest Form.
Worship Service Support Ministry…
Several of the Chosen Ministry team members sit with class members during the 9:00 AM Traditional Worship Service each Sunday. They assist class members with greeting others, finding pages in the hymnals and Bibles, and staying seated, as appropriate. Class members enjoy having a seating partner.
QUARTERLY ACTIVITIES…
The Chosen Ministry plans the following four annual activities which all include Faith, Fun and Fellowship:
Fall Pig Roast at Trinity… usually the second Sunday in September. We party at 11:00 AM until noon or after. In 2007 our group of approximately 50 Chosen Class members and friends had a wonderful time with great food and social time, games of many kinds, face painting, big bubbles, and volleyball.

Christmas Dinner and Party at Trinity… usually at noon the second Saturday in December. We have turkey, ham, and all the trimmings… we love good food. We also sing Christmas carols with Su Pi, our expert pianist’s accompanyment.
Valentine Pizza Party at Trinity… usually held at noon on the second Saturday in February. Class members each make their own pizzas. We then have games and a craft activity.
Spring Picnic at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge… usually held in late May or early June. We enjoy a potluck lunch made by our Chosen Team. We then have a ball game (plastic bat and ball), face painting, big bubbles, squirt guns (if warm enough), and other games.
Advocacy Ministry…
Consultation with Chosen Class members and their families, guardians, staff, and CMH case managers is an ongoing part of the Chosen Ministry. These chosen people have the same ups and downs we all have, but they do not always have a family member to support them. Teaming up with their current support people to promote a happy, healthy life is the focus of our advocacy. The Chosen Team has advocated for class members in the following areas:
- Housing issues
- Times of discouragement or change
- Health issues
- Behavior problems
- Encouraging work searches or locating a place to volunteer
- Planning for summer camp and camp scholarships
- Visitation during illnesses
- Need for medical testing or care
- Consultation with other churches that would develop like ministries
- Death and dying consultation, funeral and burial services, and obtaining a grave plot
Visitation Ministry…
The Chosen Team members will visit group homes, class members in their family homes, or class member’s work programs. This allows us to have a great understanding of the individuals’ life and relationships. It also allows the chosen person to be in a home setting where they are more relaxed about interacting with us one-on-one. This has proven to break down barriers in reaching some who are a bit overwhelmed with the big groups at church.
Families, home managers and staff become aware that our ministry involves more than our Sunday morning time of worship and celebration together.
VOLUNTEER MINISTRY…
Our Chosen Team members come with a mix of great experience with mentally challenged people, from little or no experience to much experience with these special persons. Yet each volunteer finds that they are quickly drawn into the action and love of our class. Volunteers give much and are rewarded with much!
If you are even a little interested, please join us for a class or two at 10:10 AM on Sundays and get to know what goes on. You will not be committing to anything but learning a bit about our ministry.
If you might be interested in volunteering, the following areas are some that are available:
- Providing and/or serving refreshments
- Driving the bus or being a bus Captain
- Sitting with class members during worship service and/or class time
- Assist with simple craft projects
- Assist with quarterly activities (preparing food, helping in the kitchen, helping class members participate, and presenting music, singing or instrument)
- Assist with Tuesday Bible Study in a group home
God has called a group of wonderful volunteers to serve the Chosen Ministry. He may be calling you to receive great blessings from the class.
THE CHOSEN VISION, INC…
The Chosen Vision, Inc. sprouted out of The Chosen Ministry. It was incorporated as a 501-c3 organization in 1992 to provide homes to developmentally disabled adults. This organization is totally separate from The Chosen Ministry and Trinity United Methodist Church.

This beautiful house on 2 acres of land provides a home for six (soon to be seven or eight) ladies with developmental disabilities.
